SKETCHING AND DESIGNING SPACE WITH MULTIPLE FIGURES

All Levels welcome

ADD NEW VIGOR AND CONFIDENCE TO YOUR FIGURE DRAWING!

Using colored fabrics and props, this class will emphasize new ways to design a unique page of multiple undraped and/or clothed figures with poses ranging from 2 to 40 minutes.  Using pencil or charcoal, we will begin by studying basic anatomy and how it relates to simplifying planes for effective shading.  Ken will also demonstrate his highly effective approach to drawing various length poses.
He will then move into drawing with water soluble calligraphy pens in conjunction with watercolor, pre-taped off geometric areas, wax crayons used as resist and anything else you can dream up to make your page of multiple figures more intriguing while still based on firm concepts of design and abstraction.  Pastel will be used as a way to make final accents.
Bring innovative ideas along with your paints and paper! If you wish to push your figure studies to more finished portraits or figures, you are welcome to bring in photos.
Ken Goldman is an accomplished artist in multiple mediums and a sought after teacher for a variety of painting classes.  He conveys how knowledge of anatomy is a big help in giving figures a sense of conviction.  He has a talent for helping students take the fear out of figures!

Preview Note: 2012 & 2013
Take the lessons learned by creating dynamic composition from live models this year to enlivening and recomposing interesting photos next year (as per this example).
In his 2013 workshop, Ken will introduce a wide range of ways to translate interesting photos and sketches into successful, dynamic paintings.
Color sketches, value sketches, overlays, photoshop and iPad programs all offer excellent possibilities but will be offered individually, according each individual's technical skill level, so no one need feel under-qualified.
