ROBBIE LAIRD NWS, SLMM, WW THE ABSTRACT NATURE OF NATUREAll levels (some painting experience recommended) This workshop is about how to make stronger and more personal paintings based on design, and on the underlying abstraction found in all of nature. Using watercolor plus your choice of additional watermedia, Robbie’s instruction will be individualized to adapt to your needs. You will select your own subject(s) of inspiration and she will guide you through a series of exercises and studies that enable you to transition from a literal depiction to a uniquely personal painting. Your paintings will be based on strong design basics combined with a variety of exciting personalized techniques. The result is a new and expanded way to use the abstract nature of nature in your own unique painting expression. Realistic and Abstract interpretation are equally encouraged. This workshop includes studio instruction and painting, as well as the (optional) opportunity for some “on location” sketching and or painting. After completing her Master’s degree in Art Education, Robbie became a Fine Arts curriculum consultant, giving workshops for teachers throughout California, the United States, and abroad. She is active in several societies and a signature member of National Watercolor Society, Society of Layerists of Multi Media, and Watercolor West. She has received numerous awards including the NWS top award for non-objective painting in 2009. She continues to offer several workshops and painting trips internationally each year, in addition to her responsibilities as the Director of the annual Kanuga Watermedia Workshops.
