Drew is a master at helping artists discover they can paint anything by following a chain of essential design decisions. You will improve your process of interpreting sunlight and shadow, landscape scenes, and animal faces as he expertly shows you how to make visual sense of your subject by skillful manipulation of the essential elements of shape, form, value, color, texture, and line. Drew has created exercises focused on enhancing each artist’s design skills and watercolor control and will give daily demos on a variety of subjects: landscapes, still life, animal faces, and portraits. Following his techniques and insights, you will be amazed how your approach to watercolor can become more flexible, intuitive, successful and fun!
Drew is a lifelong learner himself and appreciates that teaching, demonstrating techniques and preparing lessons has accelerated his own art skills and enhanced his visual perception and creativity. He enjoys interpreting all manner of subjects: landscapes, portraits, animals, flowers, from observation, memory and imagination.
Drew holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting & Printmaking, as well as a teaching credential from San Diego State University. He is frequently called upon to demonstrate art methods, conduct workshops and serve as juror for art exhibitions throughout San Diego County. A number of his watercolor paintings are published in Land of Sunlight ~ Contemporary Paintings of San Diego County by San Diego Flora. As an award-winning watercolor artist and instructor, he teaches popular art classes in all media through community college and adult education programs in San Diego, CA. Awarded Outstanding Instructor by students and staff, he takes great joy in sharing artful insights and helping artists gain more pleasure, confidence and skill at drawing and painting.
